The Most Beautiful Neighborhood
Called by the US Department of the Interior a "finest example of late 19th and early 20th
century comprehensive planning and development in the Atlanta area, and
one of the finest period suburbs in the Southeast," Druid Hills is one
of Atlanta's finest neighborhoods. Developed and designed by Joel Hurt
and Frederick Law Olmsted, Druid Hills' design, including winding roads,
unique architecture, and lush landscaping, has remained constant
through its more than 100 years of existence.
Both Emory
University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention call Druid
Hills home, and there are a large number of historic homes spread
throughout the neighborhood as well. Druid Hills contains numerous parks
and greenspaces, including Baker Woodland, Fernbank Forest, Medlock
Park, Olmstead Linear Park, and Wesley Woods Forest. There are plenty of
small shops, restaurants, galleries, coffee shops, and educational
locations throughout Druid Hills, including Emory Village and the
Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
Druid Hills Fun Fact: In the hit movie Driving Miss Daisy, Miss Daisy's home was in Druid Hills.
